Dreams Of Tall Buildings
Residuum
Residuum is a gold cassette, plaster-casted and painted box, and part-covered in a hand stamped segment of an original 1960s hand blocked print of William Morris wallpaper. It’s about the size of a hardback book, with no way to get in or play the tape, apart from by smashing the mod rock, and presumably, tearing the William Morris wallpaper.
The audio on the cassette started life as a National Trust commission at the Birmingham Back To Back properties. Dreams of Tall Buildings is sound artists Justin Wiggan and Darren Joyce. For this piece, they used a hand scanner to scan parts of the buildings, which was then turned into sound data to generate raw sound materials. More info here.
